Rockin' the Red Polo

Just like on any other typical day, I logged onto my ISU email to check my emails. As I was browsing through, I opened up an email from ISU admissions saying I had been recommended to apply to be a Cyclone Aide. First thing that came in my mind? "Nope, never going to happen. There is no way a shy person like me could ever be a Cyclone Aide." It was one of those things I wanted to do it but I wasn't sure if I was capable. I ignored the email and the application link for quite some time, until I received another email saying to apply.

Four years ago I moved in on campus and could not find my room. I had my bed and dresser but it was unclear to me where I would call home.

Now, I think of all the B’s that could have been A’s. I think of the final I missed because I slept through my alarm The times I wanted to confide in a professor but didn't. The time I learned of the rules I’m supposed to live under as a Black girl.

Welcome to The Hype, a blog by and for Multicultural Students at Iowa State University.  "Hype" has many definitions, but at its core, the word means "promotion and exposure." We hope to promote, amplify and expose the ISU campus to your voice. Multicultural Student Affairs hosts the Hype but the posts are yours. Plan to come back Sunday through Thursday for posts from your fellow students about their experiences on campus, interviews with faculty and staff, multicultural student organizations, leadership roles, adventures and more.
