At about 12:15pm on March 17th, the following email was sent to all multicultural students currently enrolled from Assistant Dean and Director of Multicultural Student Affairs, Kenyatta Shamburger. Click the link above to read the text of the email.

Good afternoon,

With all that is happening around us, I hope that each of you are having the opportunity to enjoy at least some of your spring break.

Currently, we are in the process of making a number of decisions that will have an impact on MSA program and service delivery. This is unchartered water for us and coupled with the fluidity of updates coming from the World Health Organization, Center for Disease Control and the University, we are making minute by minute decisions.

In accordance with the University’s response to COVID-19 (, all recognized student organization events and meetings scheduled from March 13 through April 4 must be canceled, postponed, or virtualized. Therefore, until further notice, the Dr. George A. Jackson Black Cultural Center is closed, as well as the Multicultural Center and Affinity Spaces.  Both will undergo cleaning and sanitizing prior to reopening.

I want to acknowledge that we recognize that your lives have made a huge shift in a matter of days.  I recognize also, that some of you, in addition to changes in course delivery, you are carrying heavy burdens (in many forms) to support yourself, family and friends.  If we, as a team, can be supportive, know that we are here.  Please reach out to us.  We are currently in the office, but we are also working to practice social distancing, therefore, virtual methods are also available (Zoom, phone, etc.). We will get through this.

In these uncertain times, please show yourself, your instructors and others that you encounter, grace and patience, as we move through these trying times together.

We will continue to provide updates, programming and fun via our social media pages.

Take care and be safe!
